The Art of Falconry: Ancient Sport in a Modern World at Sisters Firehouse

Sunday, January 22, 2023
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Description
Meet "Molly" the Harris Hawk and learn about falconry.

This is an in-person program. Masks are optional at all in-person library events. All ages welcome! Family friendly event.

Join us as local Sisters falconer, Hank Minor, presents an engaging and informative look at the art and practice of falconry. After a brief history of the sport and the types of raptors, quarry, equipment, and facilities employed, Hank will bring out the star of the show - his female Harris hawk and hunting partner, "Molly" - to share stories of hunting with these magnificent birds of prey. Ample time will be allowed for questions from the audience, and photographs are encouraged.

Hank is a licensed Master Falconer, having actively flown hawks on game for the past 15 years. He is a member of the Oregon Falconers Association, and is a past member and President of the New York State Falconry Association. Hank has trained and flown several types of raptors over the years and has hunted his birds in states across the country. He considers his ability to practice falconry a privilege, and looks at each outing with his hawks as an opportunity to learn and to improve his art.
