Description
Learn about soil health at the Environmental Center.
This is an in-person program. Masks are recommended at all in-person library events.
The soil beneath our feet is teeming with life. Join Garden Educator Denise Rowcroft at The Environmental Center's Learning Garden to get your hands dirty learning about soil. We'll discuss the four principles of creating and maintaining healthy soil, and you'll leave with hands-on practical ways to improve your garden or just protect the biodiversity in your yard. We'll meet outside in the Kansas Avenue Learning Garden. In case of inclement weather we will head inside The Environmental Center for a slideshow presentation. This presentation is geared towards adults, but the digging bed will be available for children to explore soil on their own, weather permitting.
Denise Rowcroft joined The Environmental Center in 2006 and is responsible for the on-site Kansas Avenue Learning Garden and the Garden for Every School program. She has a B.A. in Outdoor Education from Prescott College, and has over 20 years of experience with youth in classroom, outdoor and therapeutic settings. She had zero gardening experience before the Environmental Center's garden broke ground in 2010, and has been learning new things every year ever since. She previously managed the Rethink Waste Project from 2011-2018, and continues to have a deep interest in being resourceful over buying new. When she's not busy being a mom, she's skiing, reading, floating a river, or creating jewelry and art from upcycled materials at Lost and Found Art.
