Learn to write about your own experiences through the lens of myth, fairy tale, dream, and fantasy.
Create new forms by allowing the fantastical to color the factual. Speculative memoir is an emerging term for a genre that employs fantastical elements in creative nonfiction. This workshop will introduce you to speculative memoir, touch on some of the exciting new work being done in the genre, and lead you through exercises to inspire your own writing.
Miranda Schmidt is a writer whose work explores the spaces between the fantastical and the factual. Miranda has taught creative writing at the University of Washington, Portland Community College, Portland Literary Arts, and the Loft and published in TriQuarterly, Catapult, Orion and other journals.
