Workshop: Handmade Book of Secrets

Many of the characters in "No One Can Pronounce My Name" are extremely private, with secret or unspoken ambitions, desires, or histories. Do you harbor something secret or unspoken? Do you wish it to remain secret....or are you ready to share it?

In this workshop, we'll create a personal handmade book to hold our own secret or rarely shared ambitions, desires, or histories. Your book can hold a single secret or several. Bring plenty of source material to cut up (e.g., copies of photographs, pages from brochures or magazines, postcards, letters, and other ephemera) relating to your secret. Inspired by the book, we'll use hand-carved wood blocks from India to print colorful designs on our book covers. (The extended workshop at Bend Art Center will include additional printing with the studio's presses.) You decide whether your secrets are fully revealed or remain safely hidden within your book. Space is limited and registration is required.
