Dr. Annemarie Hamlin explores the roots of African American Literature. Once marginalized as representing a small portion of the American tradition, African American writers are now included in most contemporary college-level surveys of American literature.

Annemarie Hamlin is a faculty member and the chair of humanities at Central Oregon Community College. She holds a Ph.D. in English and is a specialist in nineteenth-century American literature. Her teaching areas include African-American literature, Asian-American literature, women's literature, and literature and medicine. She is the vice president of the Pacific Western Division of the Community College Humanities Association, and an active member of the Modern Language Association.
