Classes at the Library

The Deschutes Public Library offers free, hands on computer classes on variety of topics. Class size and topics vary based on library facilities and community demand.

In addition to formal classes, the library offers open computer labs where community members can drop in to ask specific technology questions or practice computer skills.

    Learn spreadsheet basics.

    Spreadsheets are excellent tools for the organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Proficiency in spreadsheet skills is beneficial for both personal and professional reasons and this class is designed as an introduction for the absolute beginner.

    Participants will get an overview of Microsoft Excel, the most popular spreadsheet program, and learn how to enter and edit data, add and delete rows and columns and sort data by creating a simple address book.

    Introduction to Finding Grants will provide an overview of the funding research process for nonprofits seeking grants from foundations, corporations, and grantmaking public charities. Participants will learn tips on how best to identify funding sources for nonprofit organizations, highlighting the electronic and print resources available for free at Deschutes Public Library. This workshop will include a demonstration of Foundation Directory Online, Foundation Center’s premiere searchable database that provides information on more than 165,000 grantmakers and over 16 million grant records.

    As a small business your revenue, expenses, profit and cash flow are all essential ingredients to making your business viable. However, few businesses manage these components properly. CPA Scott Walley, discusses the basics of running your business with "financial intelligence" including which items belong where in your spreadsheet. Plenty of examples will be provided in this interactive session. The session is free, but registration required.
