Classes at the Library

The Deschutes Public Library offers free, hands on computer classes on variety of topics. Class size and topics vary based on library facilities and community demand.

In addition to formal classes, the library offers open computer labs where community members can drop in to ask specific technology questions or practice computer skills.

    Learn how to create a budget.

    Spreadsheets are excellent tools for the organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Spreadsheets become really powerful when you start using formulas to have the program constantly update calculations and perform your math for you.

    Participants will learn to further manipulate and format data on their spreadsheet and will play with some basic formulas by creating a monthly budget.

    More and more people are using social networking to connect with friends and family. We’ll show you how to get the most out of your account while staying safe online.

    Activities will include finding contacts and groups to build your network, adding photos, commenting on and sharing posts. Participants will also learn how to access their security and privacy settings with a discussion of the options.

    •In Part III, participants will add interactive features to their web page using the programming language JavaScript.

    Introduction to Finding Grants will provide an overview of the funding research process for nonprofits seeking grants from foundations, corporations, and grantmaking public charities. Participants will learn tips on how best to identify funding sources for nonprofit organizations, highlighting the electronic and print resources available for free at Deschutes Public Library. This workshop will include a demonstration of Foundation Directory Online, Foundation Center's premiere searchable database that provides information on more than 140,000 grantmakers and over 5 million grant records.
