The Deschutes Public Library has added DVDs to its diverse collection of books, videos, magazines, audiocassettes, and music CDs. The library has more than 800 DVDs titles now available with a Deschutes Public Library card for check out. The DVDs are available at all five library branches in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver Area.
"Videos and music CDs have become "high-demand" items for our patrons and we are expecting DVDs to become very popular," said Community Relations Manager Chantal Strobel. "The collection of DVDs ranges from old movie classics to educational documentaries to popular films."
Patrons with a library card may check out a total of four DVDs or a combination of four DVDs and VHS. The loan period is seven days for both videos and DVDs.
"We put a shorter loan period on these high-demand items so they can be available to more patrons," said Strobel. "This way we can get them back sooner and can circulate them more frequently."
The full DVD collection is available to search through the library’s new catalog, iPac, located at www.dpls.lib.or.us. To search for DVDs and videos on the catalog, do a "subject search" and enter the term "DVD-Video discs." You can then limit your search by branch to see which title your local library owns. If your local library does not have a copy of the DVD or some other material you want, you can place a hold on the item and the library’s courier will deliver it to you the next day.
