Libraries Sponsor a Fine-Free Valentine’s

(February 3, 2001) The five Deschutes Public Libraries in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver are offering a Fine-Free Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 14. Patrons are encouraged to return overdue items with a bag or can of food for each item in exchange for the fine. All food will be donated to the Central Oregon Community Action Agency Network (COCAAN) for distribution across Deschutes County.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for patrons to return overdue items and help those in need," said Community Relations Manager Chantal Strobel. "The fine-free Valentine’s will not apply to lost/damaged items. The patron must be physically returning a late item with a can/bag of food in exchange for paying the fine."
The library and COCAAN encourage patrons to bring in canned or bagged food. Glass items will not be accepted.
