Klamath First Federal and Deschutes Public Library System Announce A Special Contest In Central Oregon To Benefit Less Fortunate Children This Christmas

(Bend, Ore. – October 30, 2000) Klamath First Federal and the Deschutes Public Library System are making sure that some needy children in the Central Oregon community will receive at least one Christmas gift this year through the Dress-A-Doll®/Design-A-Toy™ program that the bank and library are co-sponsoring this year.

Beginning Monday, October 30, 2000 Klamath First Federal and the Deschutes Public Library System will be distributing a quantity of undressed dolls and unpainted/unassembled toys in the lobbies of the bank’s offices in Bend and Redmond and the library’s branch offices in Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Sisters, and Sunriver. Customers and friends of Klamath First Federal and the library can pick up a doll or toy at these locations at no cost. Participants in this program will be asked to simply sew a dress or assemble and paint a toy that will then be given to deserving area children by Christmas morning. Ribbons will be awarded at each participating bank and library branch office for the best-dressed doll in several categories and for the best-finished toy. There will also be an overall grand prizewinner for the best doll and the best toy.

"We are encouraging competition in completing these gifts, however there will be no losers in this heartwarming endeavor. This is a tremendous way for us to work together with our local customers to help make this a special Christmas for some less fortunate children in the communities we serve," stated Jim Essany, Corporate Marketing Director of Klamath First Federal.

As the supply of dolls and toys is limited, people who are interested in participating are encouraged to visit as soon as possible the Klamath First Federal offices in Bend and Redmond or the Deschutes Public Library System branches in Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Sisters or Sunriver during regular business hours to check out a doll or a toy.

Participants in this program will be asked to complete their dolls and toys by Thanksgiving. The dolls and toys will then be displayed in each of the banks and libraries until they are distributed by Santa and his elves to local children.

"This is a wonderful way the Central Oregon community can put their creative skills to work for a cause that really conveys the true meaning of Christmas," said Michael Gaston, director of the Deschutes Public Library System. "The library is thrilled to be part of such a worthwhile project for our communities."

The dolls and toys can be picked up at the following locations:
