Deschutes Public Library Director Todd Dunkelberg is set to retire from his position effective September 2026, concluding a 16-year tenure as director and 26 years with the library system. With Dunkelberg's upcoming retirement, the Library is now seeking applicants to serve as Director, an exciting leadership role that brings together exceptional infrastructure, stable financial resources, strong and sustained community support, and an outstanding quality of life within one of the premier outdoor recreation regions in the American West.

Deschutes Public Library is one of the most innovative and community-driven public library systems in the Pacific Northwest. Serving residents across Deschutes County through six library locations, the Library provides welcoming, dynamic spaces where people of all ages connect, learn, and explore. Over the past decade, the District has made a significant investment in the future of library service. Thanks to the support of the voters in passing a bond in 2020, each of the system’s six libraries has been newly built or completely remodeled, creating spaces thoughtfully designed for collaboration, creativity, and community engagement.

With this exceptional foundation now in place, the next Library Director will have the opportunity to help shape the future of library services in Deschutes County, expanding community engagement, advancing innovative programming, and ensuring the Library continues to evolve alongside one of the fastest-growing regions in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
