"Know Festive" this December at Deschutes Public Library

Festive cheer for all to hear as songs and carols fill the halls (and lobbies) at Deschutes Public Library locations in December. Enjoy the Bend Senior High Choir, RavenSong from Redmond, hand bells from across Central Oregon, and more. And be sure to take part in fun, hands-on Winterfest activities. All programs are free and open to the public. Programs marked with an asterisk (*) require registration.

 

Carol of the Bells

The Bells of Sunriver perform holiday favorites including an audience participation Chime-a-Long. No musical ability needed (but bring your reading glasses if you use them). All ages.

 

DIY Ugly Seasonal Scarves

We provide the fabric and decorations, you provide the creativity! Make and take the best ugly seasonal scarf you can using flannel, ribbon, thread, hot glue, felt and more from seasons past. Supplies limited. Teens.

 

A Novel Idea … Unveiled!

It’s the library’s very own holiday tradition! Be among the first to know what the “A Novel Idea” book selection is for 2020. Enjoy light appetizers and no-host beer and wine, play Novel Idea trivia and enter the silent auction for a chance to win books and prizes, all while supporting the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. All ages.

 

Create a Beautiful Bubble Wreath*

Make a beautiful, budget-friendly wreath to give as a gift or keep for yourself. Workshop led by Kathryn Osborne, who loves creating quick and affordable crafts that spark the imagination. Adults and teens.

Sisters Jazz Choir

Enjoy the harmonies of the holidays with the Sisters Jazz Choir, an elite choir of 15 high school students auditioned out of the Sisters School District Choral Program following a difficult vocal audition. All ages.

 

The Victorian Carolers

Experience a quartet of fine musicians in authentic garb from the 1870s. The Victorian Carolers look and sound like what you would expect from an 1870s quartet of fine musicians (only they are a lot younger!). All ages.

 

Melted Snowmen*

Winter is here, but it is not always cold enough to keep our snowy friends from melting! Come made several different “melted snowmen” that can be used as ornaments or decorations. Teens.

 

Mele Kalikimaka

The fun harmonies of ukulele with songs performed by the High Country Ukulele Players and the Bend Ukulele Group. Take in the day’s events at La Pine WinterFest, or come relax and enjoy the songs on ukulele. All ages.

 

Candy Spoons

Add a little seasonal flavor to your fall and winter beverages. Make and take a variety of no-bake, DIY dipping spoons and stir sticks using candy melts, marshmallows, sprinkles, and other sweet treats. Supplies limited. Teens.

 

Gingerbread Construction

Build a simple gingerbread house out of graham crackers and royal icing. After our construction and engineering phase we’ll measure the tallest creation, and vote on the builders’ favorite. Teens.

 

The Twelve Bells of Christmas

The Zion Redeemed Ringers handbell choir performs their program, The Twelve Bells of Christmas. Zion Redeemed Ringers is a three-octave Chime group started in 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church. All ages.

 

Gingerbread Workshop

Make a simple gingerbread house from graham crackers and royal icing. We’ll provide all the ingredients for you to build your masterpiece. Come anytime between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.; all ages.

 

RavenSong

Enjoy holiday tunes and harmonies with RavenSong, Ridgeview High School's premier singing group. All ages.

 

Bend Cello Collective

Enjoy the harmonies of this cello quartet. The Bend Cello Collective is composed of a varying number of Bend-area friends who play music that spans nearly 300 years of composing and from a variety of genres. All ages.

 

Bend High Dynamics

The Dynamics are an auditioned ensemble from Bend High School. Although primarily a vocal jazz group they also perform chamber music and contemporary a cappella. They recently took second overall at the Reno Jazz Festival. All ages.

 

Sisters Bell Choir & Renaissance Sisters Consort

Hand bell and recorder music to delight you. The Sisters High Desert Bell has been active in every Sisters High Desert Chorale concert since 2008. All ages.
