Free Tax Help at the Downtown Bend Library

The 2018 tax reform bill—formally known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act—means that for some people, filing taxes this year isn’t status quo. From tax brackets to standard deductions, the changes that took effect in 2018 reflect the largest piece of tax reform legislation in more than 30 years. People wondering how they are affected can get help through AARP Foundation Tax-Aide at the Downtown Bend Library (601 NW Wall Street, Bend).


AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation sessions for Central Oregonians at the Downtown Bend Library staring on February 2 and running weekends through April 14. People needing help with their taxes can stop in to learn more about tax credits and even have an IRS-Certified Volunteer prepare their taxes. Taxes are prepared online, using IRS-certified software, and then electronically transmitted to the IRS. If you plan to file your own taxes, certified tax volunteers are also be available to answer some your tax questions.


Walk-in sessions at the Downtown Bend Library run Saturdays and Sundays noon to 5:00 p.m. beginning February 2. For more information visit for a list of items to bring to the session.


AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone and has more than 5,000 locations in neighborhood libraries, malls, banks, community centers and senior centers. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services and AARP membership is not required. CASH Oregon, through a partnership with AARP Tax-Aide, supports free tax preparation and tax credit outreach in 32 counties in the State of Oregon at over 140 tax sites.


Deschutes Public Library serves more than 185,000 Deschutes County residents through libraries in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver. Outreach services to senior centers, day care providers, and homebound residents are an integral part of the Library.
