Deschutes Public Library is throwing a party and the public is invited! Celebrate El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), the nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds, at the
Redmond Library on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Gaby Hernandez, Latino services coordinator at the Redmond Library and organizer of the event, says that celebrating El día de los niños/El día de los libros is about recognizing and respecting culture and heritage. “Language and literacy are powerful tools that can strengthen families and communities,” she says. This will be the third year that the Redmond staff has organized the event. “I enjoy seeing families that are not regular library users come to the event and see that the library can be a lively place,” says Hernandez. “It’s free and it’s fun and the whole family can get involved.” Hernandez says that booths set up around the library will offer games and crafts promoting cultural experiences as well as snacks, books, prizes and cotton candy.
In addition to El día de los niños/El día de los libros, the Redmond Library offers storytimes, computer labs and a monthly book discussion group in Spanish.
