Deschutes Public Library’s community wide reading project, “
A Novel Idea,” wraps up at Bend High School on Sunday, April 19th with a reading by award winning author of
A Tale for the Time Being, Ruth Ozeki. Ozeki’s presentation starts at 4:00 p.m. and doors open at 3:15.
All tickets for Ruth Ozeki’s reading on Sunday, April 19th have been claimed. But don’t be discouraged! We anticipate a number of seats will be available for the event. We will release all unclaimed seats to anyone without a ticket at 3:50 p.m. Through the generous support of donors and participation of Deschutes County readers, “A Novel Idea” has grown into the largest community reading project in the state. The project has grown over the course of 12 years. From reaching 400 people in 2004, to serving 6,000 people in 2014, “A Novel Idea” has emerged as the largest community wide reading project in the state. Chantal Strobel, Deschutes Public Library’s Community Relations Manager, says that the shared reading experience of “A Novel Idea,” gives participants the opportunity to discover new viewpoints and perspectives. “Community reading projects give participants the chance to discuss issues that matter and gain a better understanding of our differences all while enjoying a good read,” she says. This year more 29 presentations, workshops and discussions helped readers explore Ozeki’s rich and layered novel about a 16 year old Japanese girl and a struggling author living in British Columbia.
