series of programs in November on family, the Deschutes Public Library is pleased to announce two presentations by local counselor Beth Bellamy. Both programs are free and open to the public.

Local counselor Beth Bellamy will look at how parents can effectively respond with empathy, and not indulgence to a child’s emotional upsets. She will discuss why giving children what they need emotionally at each age stage to be able support development of emotional maturity and resilience is such a vital parenting skill. Know Family: Calm Parenting: Managing Emotions in the Face of Challenging Child BehaviorsTuesday, November 8, 2011Downtown Bend Public Library, Brooks Room

Local counselor Beth Bellamy will discuss what’s actually going on when a parent’s “buttons get pushed”. She will also discuss the research showing that parental emotional reactivity can affect the development of a child’s brain, and learning how to respond calmly can positively influence a child’s behavior and enhance the parent-child bond.
