EFFECTIVE APRIL 2, 2011

The Deschutes Public Library has experienced record increases in use at the same time tax revenue is declining.   To manage the decreases in funding, estimated at a 3.6% decrease in assessed value by Deschutes County's Assessor's office, the Library has made critical shifts in its internal structures and will be cutting the slowest hours at each of the libraries across the county beginning Saturday, April 2, 2011.

"During the last 18 months, we have restructured the organization through eliminating positions and cross-training staff to maximize our skilled personnel base," said Library Director Todd Dunkelberg. "We have also closely evaluated our open hours and usage patterns. Beginning April 2, we will shift the Library's open hours to match the highest demand times and eliminate hours during the Library's slowest periods."

According to Dunkelberg, the new hours are as follows:
