Does she or doesn’t she? Should you or shouldn’t you? Many women facing the challenges of menopause face the dilemma of choosing to take replacement hormones. Dr. Janice Blumer, DO, at a presentation title “Hormones: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly,” on December 19 at the Redmond Public Library, presents up to date information about hormone replacement therapies. She will be joined by local compounding pharmacist, Mike Edmondson. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Blumer says that if you are confused about hormones, don’t worry. “It’s not easy to understand the Estrogen/Progesterone balance.” But understanding can lead to symptom control, says Blumer. “Menopause has gotten a bad rap,” she says. “I chose to look at it as an opportunity for renewed creativity, growth and time when women can focus on themselves. Blumer and Edmondson will discuss bioidentical hormones and the risks of continued hormone therapy.
Dr. Blumer holds a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. “Osteopathy treats the entire person rather than simply treating symptoms,” says Blumer, who opened Vital Link Osteopathic Health Center in Redmond four years ago. Before moving to Central Oregon ten years ago, she competed her residency training in family practice at Case Western Reserve/ University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH. She also holds a degree in homeopathy from the British Institute of Homeopathy.
