According to the National Center for Health Statistics, approximately 50% of all marriages will end in divorce. How parents chose to navigate the co-parenting waters after a divorce makes all the difference for children caught in the middle. Through a partnership, the Deschutes Public Library and Family Resource Center, Heather Rogan, Family Skill Coordinator for the Family Resource Center presents “the Ex-Factor: Successful Co-Parenting,” at the Redmond Public Library on November 5, 2007 at 6:30 The program is free and open to the public.
“The comfort of the children in a co-parenting situation is what is most important,” say Rogan. Guiding children through a divorce and establishing a cooperative co-parenting relationship reduces stress, anxiety and confusion for children. During her presentation Rogan will highlight the many challenges of co-parenting between ex-spouses. “People leave marriages with emotional baggage and that plays out in the co-parenting arena.” She will also present tips and techniques for how to care for yourself, new spouses and how to redefine family roles. “One of the biggest challenges of co-parenting is consistency of expectations and rules.” Rogan believes that successful co-parenting is possible and an admirable goal worth the effort and time.
