The Deschutes Public Library is proud to host TV critic and music biographer Peter Ames Carlin for a reading and lecture on Sunday, October 21st, at the Bend Public Library, Brooks Room at 2:00 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.

Peter Ames Carlin, former senior writer at People magazine, and television critic for the Oregonian, is also a rock biographer and author of "Catch a Wave: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson". His book, which was released in paperback in June, chronicles the life of Brian Wilson by looking at the reality behind the myth and is a must-read for Beach Boys fans. "Carlin proves the ideal person to pen a highly readable and substantive book on this particular rock legend." (Booklist), and "...Carlin's sober insights, raise this effort a cut above the standard rock biography." (Publishers Weekly).

For his Bend appearance, Carlin says he will "track the American dream from the surf music of the sixties to tomorrow night's primetime schedule" and will be discussing in particular American pop culture and how it has shaped our national identity.
