Café Libri is open this month at the Sisters Public Library on August 24, 2006 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. During this time, regular library services are available. This program is free and open to the public.
Taking the stage at the July event is the Sisters duo of Brad Tisdel and Brent Alan. Joining Tisdel and Alan will be students from the American Project. According to Tisdel, he and Alan have been playing together for ten years. “Musically Brent is really solid,” says Tisdale of his musical partner in crime. “The added bonus is that Brent is a goofball and there’s always an element of surprise when we play together.” Alan and Tisdel play original acoustic music that is honest, fun and heartfelt. Tisdel plays acoustic guitar with Alan lending flawless lead playing on guitar, mandolin, Dobro and banjo. They both sing lead and backing vocals and have been compared to Crosby Stills and Nash meet Simon and Garfunkel with a little bluegrass thrown in for good measure.
The Americana Project provides opportunities for young people to learn about, write, perform, and record music. Through a curriculum integrating both guitar instruction and the history of American music, students build a heightened awareness of the influences that have shaped today’s music and culture. In its fifth year, the Americana Project has made a positive impact on the lives of over 750 young people both in class and as part of the overall program. The students are immersed in expressing themselves through songwriting and as a part of the curriculum write their own original songs. Opportunities to perform are a critical component of the project says Tisdel, Program Director of the Americana Project. The program now includes an elementary, middle, and high school component where simultaneously 60 students are participating each trimester.
