In support of A Novel Idea … Read Together, the community-reading project offered by the Deschutes Public Library and the Deschutes Public Library Foundation, the Sisters Movie House will be offering a free movie screening.

The Sisters Movie House will be screen Like Water For Chocolate on Tuesday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. Based on the best selling book by Laura Esquivel, the 1993 film won many awards and set into motion a new era of Mexican cinema. At the center is the love story between Tita, the youngest daughter of a traditional family and her handsome suitor, Pedro. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. The screenings are free and sponsored in part by Sisters Movie House. Food and beverages will be available for sale.

During the month of April, the Library will be hosting a variety of events in support of the Novel Idea … Read Together project. The programs are designed to give residents of Deschutes County a context for better understanding this year’s selected novel, González & Daughter Trucking Co. by María Amparo Escandón. The tale of Libertad, her father and her fellow inmates at the Mexicali Penal Institution for Women, is a story that has feet planted firmly on both sides of the U.S. and Mexican boarder and explores the themes of family, freedom, redemption and the power of storytelling.
