Financial Friday In Sunriver

Date Posted:  8/14/2003

Reese Shepard, CFP, ChFC, takes a look at a disciplined process for buying and selling stocks on August 22, at 12:00 noon at the Sunriver Area Public Library. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.

“The best way to select a stock for purchase is to know the company well,” Shepard. “Or rely on a good advisor or mutual fund.” Shepard, who first began working on Wall Street in 1966, holds an economics degree from Harvard and a MBA from Stanford. He moved to Bend in 1984 to start COCC’s Business Development Center and has been in the financial services industry in Bend for the past ten years.

Shepard says a buyer should use three methods when selecting a stock for purchase. “You should have some familiarity with the company you are about to buy, discuss the purchase with a knowledgeable advisor, and institute a specific and disciplined process for buying and selling each stock.” In addition to a short explanation of the current stock market, Shepard will describe some analytic tools that might be useful to the do-it-yourself investor.

This program is an installment of the monthly Financial Friday series, occurring on the fourth Friday of each month. The programs will feature information about investing, financial planning, taxes or retirement and is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 312-1032.
