Deschutes Public Library and the Central Oregon Family Resource Center is pleased to welcome Kathy Masarie, MD, for a presentation in the Brooks Room on Wednesday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.
According to Kathy Masarie, MD, bullying can take many forms, from gossip and blogs to the silent treatment and exclusion from group activities. Bullying is a universal issue and all parents share concern, anxiety and a general feeling of helplessness on how to help. During her library presentation Kathy Masarie, MD, will share with parents and other caring adults specific strategies and techniques on what can be done to reduce the harm.
“I work to help our kids stay healthy and thrive,” says Masarie. She is a parent, a pediatrician and the founder of the non-profit organization, Full Esteem Ahead. Masarie is now working as a Parent and Life Coach, leading parenting classes and working one-on-one with adults and teens to strengthen family connections.
Masarie’s presentation is being brought to Bend through a partnership between the Deschutes Public Library and the Central Oregon Family Resource Center. Vicki Ertle, Executive Director of the Family Resource Center, says that a partnership between her non profit organization and the library is a natural fit. “Parents are always learning because their children are always changing. Both organizations share a passion for helping families get the information they need.” The Library and the Family Resource Center are currently planning a speaker’s series, focusing on parenting and family topics. Ertle expects the first presentation in the series to debut mid summer.
