Getting Government Under Control

Posted By:  Liz Goodrich

Local author William Boyer presents a program titled “How We Lost Our Government and How To Regain It,” in the Brooks Room at the Bend Public Library on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.

Boyer, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Hawaii, is the author of five books on education and long range planning. His most recent book, Myth America: Democracy vs. Capitalism, is being adopted into colleges and university curriculums across the country. “Legal maneuverings have shifted power from the public to the corporations,” says Boyer, “and that leads to corporate control of campaign financing.” Boyer says the bottom line “really is for the government to be of the people, by the people and for the people. Understanding how we lost power and how we can regain it is the most important thing we can do.” During his presentation Boyer will explain actions the public can take to help regain control over government, which according to Boyer, has increasingly failed to represent the public.

Boyer has taught at the Universities of Oregon and Montana, Oregon State and Portland State Universities and World Campus Afloat. He has been involved in environmental planning; a movement dedicated to the creation of environmental rights.
