Café Libri returns to LaPine Public Library on November 19, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. This program is free and open to the public.

Café Libri is the result of the library district responding to public suggestions. Created to provide a place to meet and mingle, Café Libri events are hosted once a month throughout the library district. “The La Pine Library is dedicated to responding to the needs of our area. When residents support our efforts and attend our programs, it lets us know that we are making a valued contribution to our community, and helps us with planning for the future,” says branch manager Sandy Irwin. “Cafe Libri provides a casual, social event which balances culture with community,” continues Irwin. Who does Irwin hope to see at November’s Café Libri event? “We hope that Café Libri not only brings in regular library users, but also those who would like to learn about the library, meet with old friends, or make some new ones.” Although the library is open for business, limited services are available during Café Libri events.

Providing entertainment at the November event will be singer/songwriter Jenny Baker who was recently voted Bend’s Best Musician by The Source Weekly. When asked about the recent award, Baker downplays the honor. “I had now idea! I thought maybe she (The Source reporter) had the wrong number! The award has encouraged me to write and play more.” Baker was given her first guitar at the age of 10 as a gift from her grandfather. Baker’s original tunes are interspersed with classic folk and rock covers by some of her favorite musicians. She says her influences come from a variety of musical genres including metal, opera, punk and classic rock. Baker’s favorites include Indigo Girls, Jimi Hendrix, Nick Cave, and Ani Difranco. According to Baker, the best part of performing is playing her original tunes and knowing the subject of a particular song may be watching from the audience. “The greatest part is watching their faces turn red!”
