The Central Library opened on May 11, 2026, and serves as the central hub for Deschutes Public Library District’s administrative and circulation functions. This 103,343-square-foot building was designed by The Miller Hull Partnership, with Steele Associates Architects as the local architect, and is all-electric and energy-independent thanks to its solar array.

The Central Library has a varied collection of English and Spanish language materials and hosts a variety of events and programs for all ages. Meeting and study rooms are available on every floor; a dynamic children’s discovery space is on the second floor; and a hands-on MakerSpace and dedicated co-working area are located on the third floor. You’ll also find free and fast WiFi and diverse public art throughout the building, as well as a Thump Coffee café in the lobby.
