Fines & Fees
Fines for Adult and Teen Materials
- Fines are assessed at $0.10 per day per item excluding holidays, maxing out at $2.00
per incident.
- If an item is renewed after it is overdue and then is kept out past due again, the
fines may exceed $2.00 for an individual item.
- A 7-day grace period exists beyond the due date. Cumulative fines will be applied
on the eighth day.
- Items that are lost or kept for 42 days past their due date are charged the full
replacement cost plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee. Replacement items are
not accepted in lieu of payment.
Fines for Juvenile Materials
- No daily late fines are accrued through the first 41 days.
- Items that are lost or kept for 42 days past their due date are charged the full
replacement cost plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee. Replacement items are
not accepted in lieu of payment.
Damaged Items
- Items are charged a full replacement cost and a $5.00 non-refundable processing
fee. Replacement items are not accepted in lieu of payment.
Unique Management Services (UMS)
- Accounts that owe $50 or more from fines and fees will be sent to Unique Management
Services, a material recovery agency used by Deschutes Public Library. With the
exception of Internet access, library services will not be available once an account
is sent to UMS.
- Accounts sent to Unique Management Services will be charged the amount owed the
library plus a $10.00 non-refundable fee.
- Access to library services will be restored once the account is paid in full and
there is a zero balance.
- If materials are not returned and payment is not made, these accounts are credit
reported at 4 months to the national credit agencies; EquiFax, TransUnion, and Experian.
