Author! Author! Series (Four Nights) – Starting Saturday, September 15, 2012 – Buy Your Tickets Now!

The Deschutes Public Library Foundation is proud to present Author! Author! a literary series that brings world-class authors to Central Oregon. Author! Author! is a quarterly series that kicks off in September 2012 and runs through June 2013. Each author event will include a lively discussion of the author’s current works. The 2012/2013 series is now on sale. Check out the authors:

Mitch Albom

Bestselling author Mitch Albom author of Tuesdays with Morrie; Five People You’ll Meet in Heaven; Have a Little Faith will present Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Bend High School Auditorium.



Jennifer Egan

Pulitzer Prize Winner Jennifer Egan author of Visit from the Goon Squad; The Keep; Look at Me will present Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.



Stephen Greenblatt

Pulitzer Prize Winner Stephen Greenblatt author of The Swerve; Will in the World: How Shakespeare became Shakespeare will present Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.



Erik Larson

Edgar Award winner Erik Larson author of Devil in the White City; In the Garden of Beasts will present Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Bend High School Auditorium.



Revenue from ticket sales provides funds to enhance the Library’s services and programs. 100 tickets will be gifted to Deschutes County high school students along with books by the featured authors.

Libraries Closed for System Upgrades

All Deschutes Public Libraries are CLOSED on Monday, August 27, 2012 for catalog maintenance and upgrades. Regular Library hours will resume on Tuesday, August 28.

Know Coffee/Know Books

BKindlering your favorite eReader and head to Bellatazza for a coffee and free training on how to use your favorite reading device. This free class is offered every Wednesday throughout August and September from 1:30 – 2:30 at the downtown Bend Bellatazza location.



Whychus Creek Watershed Botanical Drawings Exhibit at The Sisters Public Library

From August 2nd through August 30, 65 drawings of native and invasive plant species will be on display in the Sisters Library’s Community Room. These beautiful drawings were created by Sisters Middle school students involved in a stewardship project sponsored by Art Central’s ‘VanGo’ outreach program and the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council.

Buy a raffle ticket to the Friends of the Sisters Library’s quilt raffle. The winner will be announced September 11.



Journeys Art Quilt Group at The Redmond Public Library

Journeys Art Quilt The Friends of the Redmond Library Art Committee is pleased to present a display of fiber art by the Journeys Art Quilt Group. The exhibition opens Saturday, August 4, 2012, and continues through September 29, 2012 at the Redmond Public Library. The group will be exhibiting thirty-five pieces of art. Select pieces will be for sale with a 20% contribution going to support of the Redmond Friends of the Library which sponsors the Art Committee and art exhibits at the Library.
