The poet Hilaire Belloc said “We wander for distraction, but we travel for fulfillment.” An increasing number of people are finding fulfillment by taking cycling sojourns—trips by bike. Ellee Thalheimer, the author of Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-day Tours in Oregon
, joins us for two programs designed to help people embark on multi-day self-supported bicycle tours in Oregon. This program is part of the Library’s “Know Go

Thalheimer says that cycle touring affords the opportunity for people to see the world on a shoestring. “Touring is a chance for adventure,” she says. “Not knowing where the day will plop you down, or in what condition. It’s a way to spend an entire vacation building a terrific base of fitness and flying high from a huge exercise and endorphin rush.” She emphasizes that time on the road is a chanve to connect with nature and recalibrate to what is important in life. “Grinding up Cascade passes or coasting along the diamond-blue water, you forget about yourself and day-to-day concerns that seem so ominous at home,” Thalheimer says.
