Happy Birthday Alice Hoffman

Alice HoffmanAlice Hoffman, one of the most popular authors at DPLS, celebrates a birthday today. Born in New York City, Hoffman spent her childhood on Long Island. She earned her BA from Adelphi University and an MA from Stanford University Creative Writing Center.

Her first novel was published when she was 21. Since then, she has published over 30 novels, books of short fiction, and titles for children and young adults. Hoffman has become a writer respected, distinguished, and popular. Her novel Here on Earth, an Oprah Book Club choice, was made into a film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Toni Morrison, Nobel Laureate in Literature, calls Hoffman’s latest novel, The Dovekeepers, "beautiful, harrowing, a major contribution to twenty-first century literature."
