Deschutes Public Library is pleased to welcome author /explorer William L. Sullivan on Friday, May 14 - 7:00 pm at the Bend Public Library
and on Saturday, May 15 - 1:00 pm at the Redmond Public Library
for a slide presentation titled “100 New Hikes in Southern Oregon.” Both programs are free and open to the public and books will be available for sale following the presentations.
Sullivan offers a slide show tour of new trails he discovered while researching the just-released third edition of his book, "100 Hikes in Southern Oregon
." His new finds include hidden beaches on the Illinois River, a Darlingtonia bog at Eight Dollar Mountain, and backpacking trails in Northern California's, Trinity Alps. Sullivan will also share what new trails are being built at Crater Lake. As always, Sullivan spices his talk with notes on the geology, wildlife, and history.
Sullivan is the author of a dozen books about Oregon
, including Hiking Oregon's History
, the popular 100 Hikes series, and Oregon Trips & Trails
. His journal of a 1000-mile hike he took across Oregon in 1985, Listening for Coyote
, was chosen by the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission as one of Oregon’s 100 Books, the 100 most significant books in the state’s history. He has also written a memoir and two novels.
