This month the Art Envy series will look at the American painter Jackson Pollack. Participants in this monthly workshop will enjoy a 20-minute presentation on the life and work of Jackson Pollack, and then get creative in a 45-minute outside splatter painting workshop taught by local artist
Jackson Pollack was an influential American Painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. Pollack is most widely known for his unique splatter and paint pouring techniques. This technique combined the movement of his body, over which he had control, the viscous flow of paint, the force of gravity, and the absorption of paint into the canvas. Art critics were divided, some saying “This is not art—it’s a joke in bad taste” and others saying Pollack’s paintings were “a culmination of the Western tradition”.
