As part of the programming being offered for the Oregon Reads state-wide reading program, the Deschutes Public Library is offering three different art workshops on contemporary Japanese art. These painting workshops are free and open to the public and supplies are included.
Anime' Art Workshop for Teens and Adults: Friday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m. at The Art Station in Bend.
Anime' Art Workshop for children aged 7-12: Friday, April 10th at 4:00 p.m. at The Art Station in Bend.
Anime' Art Workshop for Teens and Adults: Saturday, April 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the La Pine Public Library.
Anime', taken from the half of the Japanese pronunciation of "animation", in addition to manga, is extremely popular both in Japan and the United States. In Japan, anime' is considered an art form, and is hugely influential in the world of contemporary Japanese art.
These workshops, taught by local artist Paula Bullwinkel, will discuss the influence of classical Japanese calligraphy and printwork on anime', after which participants will create their own pieces of art that are based on contemporary Japanese artwork.
