Pursuing her love for the mountains has taken Hilloah Rohr around the world. But over and over again she returns to the majesty and magnificence of the French Alps. Find out why the Alps are so special on Sunday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m. when Rohr shares her adventures at the Sisters Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
Growing up skiing and hiking the mountains around Seattle, Rohr was on skis from the time she could walk and making technical climbs in her early teens. Currently living in Bend, she continues to enjoy Nordic skiing, hiking and cycling. She owns Rohr Fitness & Safety, Inc. providing health, fitness and injury prevention seminars and consultation to large businesses and government agencies. Hilloah is also an Onsen Therapist based in Bend.
This year Rohr will feature slides of hiking and nordic skiing in Parc Regional du Queyras. Located in the French Alps on the Franco-Italian border, Les Queyras was created as a regional park in 1977 to preserve the mountain culture. Scenic hiking trails wind through high mountain villages offering the opportunity to explore 16th Century churches built by the Italians, a high mountain tunnel reportedly built by Napoleon, and Chateau Queyras, a walled, fortified castle built under Louis XIV. Towering over the entire region is Monte Viso, a rugged 11,550’ peak located on the Franco-Italian border. In the true French tradition, the food, cheese and wine are enjoyed throughout the mountain villages along the trails that wind through the majestic Les Queyras region!
