Oregon's Changing Geology

Deschutes Public Library and Deschutes Historical Center are pleased to present the Oregon Chautauqua program, “Changing Perspectives on Oregon’s Geology,” presented by Janet L. Brown. The program will be held in the Brooks Room on Wednesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The program is sponsored in part by the Oregon Council for the Humanities.

Geology is a visual subject, challenging us to understand time and global change through observation of the distribution, composition, age, and origin of rock layers. Oregon’s history and geology are intimately connected, from the spectacular eruption of Mt. Mazama nearly 7,000 years ago to current questions of water availability in the Klamath Basin.

Brown brings 25 years of experience with the U.S. Geologic Survey to this examination of the interplay between geologic and human history.
