Judith Montgomery Reads At Second Sunday

Deschutes Public Library is pleased to host the monthly Second Sunday Readings on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Brooks Room of the Bend Public Library. This event is free and open to the public.
The monthly readings are the result of the efforts of local writers and poets who felt the need to gather to share their work and their love of writing. Each month has a focus and a featured reader. The gatherings end with an open mic time where anyone willing can share original pieces.
Judith H. Montgomery is a Bend resident and poet-in-residence at Central Oregon Community College. Her poems appear in The Southern Review, Gulf Coast, Northwest Review, and The Bellingham Review, among other journals, as well as in several anthologies including Essential Love (Grayson Books, 2000) and, most recently, In a Fine Frenzy: Poems Inspired by Shakespeare (University of Iowa Press, 2005), and Sonnets: 150 Contemporary Sonnets (University of Evansville Press, 2005).
She’s recently been awarded a second fellowship in poetry from the Literary Arts, as well as an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Oregon Arts Commission; residencies from Soapstone and Caldera; and prizes from the National Writers Union, Americas Review, and Red Rock Review. Four of her poems have been nominated for Pushcart prizes.
Her chapbook, Passion, received the 2000 Oregon Book Award for poetry. She holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Syracuse University.
She lives in Woodside Ranch with her husband, Phil Havens, who helps who fend off the deer ever-ready to munch on her garden whenever she is not looking.
