How many racquetballs can fit in a racquetball court? While Karim is waiting outside the racquetball court for Mr. Schrub to arrive he starts to compute how many balls will fit in the court. He determines that both spheres and boxes are inefficient shapes to fill the space. But to change a ball from a round shape to another shape is not possible because then it would not be a ball. The quilt represents filling the court with balls as they fall to the floor. The colors, from dark to light to dark, represent Karim’s days in New York – some lonely and sad, others bright and happy then back to an unknown future.
