and not indulgence to a child’s emotional upsets. She will discuss why giving children
what they need emotionally at each age stage to be able support development of emotional
maturity and resilience is such a vital parenting skill.

Managing Emotions in the Face of Challenging Child Behaviors
Local counselor Beth Bellamy will discuss what’s actually going on when a parent’s
“buttons get pushed”. She will also discuss the research showing that parental emotional
reactivity can affect the development of a child’s brain, and learning how to respond
calmly can positively influence a child’s behavior and enhance the parent-child
bond.
