The following are recommendations/suggestions from East Bend leaders and the general
public that the library will carefully consider. District objectives, site capacity,
and budget will determine the feasibility and priority of services in our new library.
There is no ranking or order to the suggestions below.
What services would you like to see in the new East Bend Library?
- Near mass transit
- Outreach to at-risk children and children dealing with poverty
- After-hours facility use for other local agencies and groups
- Bi-lingual services
- Community hall
- Tutor rooms
- Internet center for families
- Family center in general
- Easy access for seniors
- Classroom space with educational AV
- Rent players (e.g. DVD, MP3, Sony readers)
- Author programs
- Adult literacy programs
- Music programs
- Writing programs for kids
- Expand volunteer services
- Expand children’s programming with after-work and more weekend hours
- Bi-lingual computer classes and assistants
- Away from high traffic areas
- Teen advisory council
- Reference resources/services
- New book displays
- Lots of parking
- Holds pick-up
- Curbside/Drive-up services

What may be some of the obstacles for an East Bend Library?
- East side is not as pedestrian or bike friendly
- Parking
- Lighting—external and internal (retail spaces may not have the best natural lighting)
- Congested areas, like the forum
- Traffic noise
- Stay in budget
- Location that meets everyone’s needs
- Traffic patterns
- Accessibility and ADA compliance
Are there partners the library should consider?
- Schools
- Social Service Agencies (once a week when the library is closed the space is used
by local social service providers to introduce public to programs in a friendly,
familiar and warm space)
- Coffee or tea house
- Bend Gen. Society
- CORIL
- Independent Living/Senior Centers
