Deschutes Public Library System - Central Oregon
Imagine working in a stable, well-funded library system that can provide you with
the resources that you need to deliver excellent service. Imagine living in a scenic
wonderland where mountain views are around every corner.
Central Oregon is a special place to work and play. Deschutes County is the cultural,
recreational, and shopping hub of the region, featuring music festivals, art shows,
specialty stores, and endless recreation at nearby mountains, rivers, lakes, and
parks. Bend, the largest city, features two shopping malls as well as an outlet
mall. Excellent shopping is also available in the resort towns of Sisters and Sunriver
and in the rapidly growing city of Redmond.
Deschutes Public Library System serves a population of 100,000 residents with five
branch libraries located in Bend, La Pine, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver. The System
has a permanent tax rate that generates more than $45 per capita and has an annual
book budget of more than $600,000. The five-branch system has dedicated four new
facilities within the past five years and has just expanded services with a new
bookmobile that is staffed with a librarian and an assistant. The bookmobile enables
our library district to provide outreach services to many in our communities who
are unable to come to one of our libraries.
